Pressure is still rather low east of th« South island, but has been rising over the Dominion with the approach of an anti-cyclone across the Tasman Sea. ' Westerly. winds blew yesterday In parts of the Cook Strait area but south-westerlies have predominated, moderate to strong generally, apd the weather has been cold and changeable with showers at times in most districts. Snow has fallen on some of the, South Island ranges and hail at a fewplaces. -During yesterday it was mainly fine, however, about Cook Strait and also In eastern parts of the North Island, and by this morning conditions had greatly improved, except in. the far north and south; and the Cape Egmont district, where at 9 a.m. it was still showery and somewhat squally.' ■
