NAVY LEAGUE ACTIVITIES

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

The annual meeting of the junior branch of the Navy League was held last night at Gamble and Creed's rooms, Lambton Quay, and was very well attended. The president, Miss Edwin, took the chair. The secretary, Miss Mona Brien, read the annual report, which outlined the year's activities briefly. It stated that tho branch had assisted with several dances given for the petty officers and men of the Australian squadron. The Drama Circle had been successful with the play "Op o' Me Thumb," which was entered for the British drama festival. The president and secretary represented tho branch at the Navy League dinner on "Nelson Day." A one-act play was presented at the annual Red Cross party in December. The cadets of the Northumberland, Cornwall, and Athelcrown were entertained. The resignation of the president, Mrs. A, E. Brown, was received with regret. Miss Edwin consented to fill, the vacancy. Members had much pleasure in meeting Captain Taprell Dorling, 8.N., early this year. Members were present at a gathering held by the-combined committees to congratulate Sir James Grose and Mrs. James Findlay on recentlyconferred honours. A successful bridge party was held in April at Sir James Grose's home. Of £9 raised, £2s 2s was handed to the general fund'and £2 2s to the ladies-auxiliary. The members were entertained in April by Mrs. Findlay, the captain, and officers of tho Akaroa at a dance. • . • ' , After the adoption of the report, Mr. Darroch, secretary, of the Navy League, gave a short, talk, suggesting several new activities to the branch. The name had been altered from girls' branch to junior branch, and it was hoped that the membership would include more young men. The election of officers resulted as follows:: —President, Miss Edwin;, honorary secretary, Miss Mona Brien; assistant honorary secretary, Miss I. Spidy; deputy-chairman, Miss N. Willcocks; committee, Misses N. Cramond, A. Davis, M. Grose, K. Haire. N. Horton, N. Kendall, L. McGoun," T. Meadows, B. Menard, N. Olphert, S. Paul, C. Phillips, A. Rubenstein, B. Taylor, B. Thomson, I. Turner, and: V. Bevan.
