REFEREE HIT
TROUBLE AT RUGBY MATCH
To reports of unpleasant incidents at some Rugby football matches this season there is another which should lead to definite action on the part of the controlling authorities in stamping out the unseemly behaviour of some followers of football wtio allow their feelings to run away with them. The control of play is in the hands of the referee and his lot is hard enough without his having to put up with abuse from the side-line. In a match on Saturday, one spectator, it is stated, became so annoyed that ho struck the i referee.
The regrettable incident, which occurred during the half-time interval, arose from remarks made from the side-line during the progress of the first spell. It is understood that, after a warning was issued, a request was made by the referee that the spectator in question be .removed from the ground. At this the referee was struck. A further warning from the referee resulted in the official receiving another blow. The matter, it is stated, has been reported to official quarters with a view to further action being taken.
This is the second case this season in which a Bugby referee has been struck, though in the previous one it is understood that a player was responsible.
