THEOSOPHICAL LECTURE

Mr. Theo. Queree, president of the Wellington Theosophical Society, lectured on Sunday evening in the society's hall on "The Great Question: What is Life? Its Plan? and Purpose?" Mr. Queree reviewed the progress of science and philosophy from the dawn of history, telling how each era had contributed its quota to knowledge, and opened up fresh paths until at last it had been^ discovered that these parallel lines of investigation, so divergent in their nature and process, were but different roads to a common goaK -Every advance made by. scientists furnished further proof that the life underlying and animating everything that man could understand was the same life, expressing itself in myriad forms, but the same in essence and governed by .the same immutable law. Mr. Queree quoted Camille Flammarion, the Trench astronomer, whose observations satisfied him that solar systems were as subject to universal law as were the atoms in a molecule. The stars testified that they and everything, else in our universe had its appointed place and purpose, and the most conclusive proof of this was furnished by mail, who in his struggles to evolve and perfect himself, demonstrated an instructive knowledge of and co-operation with a universal plan and purpose.
