Believing Hint they had trapped the criminal John Dillingcr, five police surrounded a small house in it suburb of St. Louis and called out, "Come out, John; we've got you." Cxctting no reply, they machine-gunned the place and rushed in, to find a sleeping woman, Mrs. Bessie Masterton, killed and 'her two trembling children beside her. When the woman's husband arrived it was evident that ho had no knowledge of Dillinger...
The police are unable to explain their fatal error.
