It. is reported- from Wan, NewGuinea, that a sensation has bt'en caused-by the discovery of an . organised baud of gold-stealers on the Bulolo goldfields. .Its is believed that the gang has been-sending gold ou a big scale to a receiving centre at Hong Kong, depriving the Commonwealth Government of large amounts in royr alties. .
A private detective was sent to the goldfields some timo ago from Sydney and since, .working as a dredge hand, obtained evidence which led ■to the arrest of certain persons, regarded as important links in the scheme. Throo men, found in possession of gold specimens and also retorted gold, suspected to have been stolen, have already been sentenced to imprisonment for varying terms.
