TRANSACT NARROWLY

USEFUL OPENING PRICES

A 1 smooth, exhibition of fencing brought success to Transact in the Talavera Hack Hurdles,' but ho required all his concession of 321b in the weights to enable him to, outstay the topweight and favourite Royal Lineage. It was the winner's third win to' date, the other two having been a" jumping double at the Otaki Meeting last month. :

Transact, in his usual way, required time in which to settle down, and he was last over the two first fences, but faulty jumping .by some of the others enabled him to' improve his position. The leaders, Illuminate, /Etuotion, and Playground, were, all bungling their fences, and five furlongs from home Royal Lineage jumped clear to "..;the front, with Transact, also jumping splendidly, going after him. Royal Lineage took a wide sweep to the last fence, and although he jumped it" a fraction sooner than Transact his lightlyweighted rival wore him down on the final flat .stretch, and beat him. i home by a heacU -. ■■■■■■.'■

Trausact finished a good fourth on Thursday, after two" bad jumps, so the improvement was riot at all out of order. It was indeed surprising that he paid such a fine win price as he did. He is an' eight-year-old gelding by Haneuineel (sire of Nukumai) from the Eiccartou mare Transmission, one of Mr. G. Hume's breeding, aud he is owned by Mr. R. McMullian, for whom he is trained at Otaki by A. 31. Wright, who should know all about tEe Manehineels.

Royal Lineage again jumped splendidly, and the hahdicapper grpved. very near correct in his estimation of his ability. \itaphone, a fair third three lengths back, was always going like a probable placegetter, but-at-the :finish he. just held on to hold off the'late-ehallenging Chile, who had been near, the rear nearly all the way. The- others,'.'excepting Silver5 Division, who lacked the required pace on the flat, all jumped poorly/ Flower >was again a bad last. . • ■ :'■■•"•■
