ROYAL LINEAGE'S HURDLES
The run.]against the favourites in the early races was continued when Verden failed in the Vittoria Hack Hurdles. The ■winner turned •up in the fifth both-way selection Royallaneage; who returned the third double-figure win dividend in the three ..opening events. •• Royal Lineage ran a fine race out with the vanguard all the way, and he was able to hold back his main effort till the decisive stage of the contest. \ ■ ■'■■■■:
Royal' Lineage, was actually first over the initial obstacle, but Verden and Playground then passed him. This trio drew clear going to the back, but a bad jump lost, Playground his position and Esteem raced xip to take his place. Esteem went to the front move than half a mile from home, and Verden waa retiring beaten when he fell at the second to last fence. Running to the final obstacle Royal Lineage again moved past Esteem, and once across he came on to score decisively by three lengths. . .
.The-winner is a nine-year-old bay geld-' ing by Limoud from the King Kiifus marc Royal Exchange, arid as a yearling'he was bought at; tlie' Trenthara sales for 210 •guineas. He: is Owned by Mr. W. Wilson,; for. whom ho won over hurdles at bis only: two appearances last, season; He was then off the'scene till he had a roce recently at Napier, Park, and that,, runfitted^him, for his successful effort yesterday". He liqs never- been too sound, but while he "stands'lipi1 Ko should 'succeed again among the hurdlors, as he; lias more than usual, hurdling i speed and' lie.'. junips boldly. ■ •■:•' "■■■■; -v: , ,-:; ..}■::.-:,. .^ ■ ■-■',
Esteem was not^ridden-to.the best.obvious advantage^'but he is not an easy bprse to conU'ql.'. Had his1 rider been able to hold him back longfei: he must have been harder,to beat.' .':";-. • \.\
Silver Division, five lengths away, owed his third placing to his sticking.on better than most of the others.- One who was finishing jietter, : however^ -was Huntique, who came home fast from the last 'l ence just to fail in reachingthe placesJ Royal Limond, Wilton, and Emotion, who followed after an interval, went fair races without ever looking dangerous. Transact and Illuminate were disappointing. Verden'was a beaten horse when he fell, but he revealed a lot of early speed. Flower jumped poorly arid finished down the course last. . .
