Southern. Cross.—Bro.' G, Piaggi, X.G., presided over a fair attendance. The sick visitors reported on brothers on the sick list, and'sick" and'ordinary account's"'totalling £71 were passed; Invitations to socials- and "500" tournaments were accepted" from" several' lodges. Two new menibers: were "proposed/ There were four entries for the senior and one'fqr the junior grades of the"' district ritual • competition. After the lodge closed members gave impromptu speeches on subjects selected by Bro. R. S. Meeeh, and were judged by Bro. J. G. McGregor. Wildey Lodge—Bro. P. O'Boyle, N.G., presided over a well-attended meeting. Three members were declared on the sick fund, one member being declared off, sick pay with general accounts being passed for payment. Invitations to socials were accepted from kindred lodges. A ballot was taken for all candidates due for initiation and found favourable. The challengers for the "500" shield, Zealandia Lodge members, were admitted officially. Bros. Rudkin and Reilly (Southern Cross Lodge) acted as judges. Routine business concluded, the lodge was closed to allow thecompetition to be proceeded with. After an interesting series of games Wildey Lodge was declared the winners, thereby retaining the shield. Rahiri Rebekah Lodge.—Sister W. Murray presided over a good attendance. Medical accounts were passed for payment. Six nev.' members were initiated. The evening concluded with dancing. GRAND UNITED ODDFELLOWS. Quarterly District Meeting.—Bro. McQueen, D.M., was the presiding officer. Other officials present were Bro. Couper (Deputy District Master), Sister Hooper (District Secretary), Bros. Warner, Mitchell, Tingay, and Sister Pryde (District Treasurer). Delegates present were Bros. Knight, Pearson, Palmer, Rey, Morgan, Sister Bradstock, Bros. Thompson, Adams, and Sister Ede. Visitors were Bros. Ridding, Bradstock, and Matthews (District Inspector). The resignation of Bro. Davidson as District Auditor was accepted with regret. Bro. Ryde was elected District Lecturer. Proposals were put forward by the Lower Hutt delegate that the town and suburban branches play Rugby and hockey matches, with the result that delegates are to be called together from all branches to form a sports committee. Bro. Palmer (Petone Pioneers) was elected chairman. Bros. McQueeu and Tingay were elected delegates to represent the Wellington district at a special meeting of the United Friendly Society Council. Official visits-Were arranged for Star of Newtown and Miramar branches. Reports j were received and the usual accounts j passed for payment.
Loyal Central Branch. —Sister Gower presided over a full attendance. Members of District Council attended officially, Bro. McQueen, D.M., taking the chair, supported by Sister Ryde, D.T., and Bro. Harnor. Three candidates were initiated. Several members were reported sick, and sick pay was passed accordingly. Reports were made by the ball and district delegates. It.was decided that a jewel.be procured for competition between the sitting officers, the winner to wear same for a term of sis months. A vote of thanks was accorded members of the District Council for their attendance.
Miramar Branch.—Bro. Johnstone, N.G., presided. Two members were reported sick, and sick pay was passed. The executive committee's action in dealing with urgent business at the previous meeting was endorsed. Bro. Pearson was elected to attend the next ball committee meeting. The meeting was concluded with harmouy. Star of Newtown Branch.—Sister Murphy presided over a good attendance. An official visit was received from members of Grand Lodge as folloks:—Bro. Hey. G.M., Bro. Hooper, D.G.M., Bro. Bradstock, G.S., Bro. Ponder, G.T., and Bro. Norton, G.T. The following members of the District Council were also present for the purpose of installing.'" some of the branch officers:—Bro. McQueeu, D;M., Bro. Couper, D.D.M., Sister Hooper, D.S., Sister Ryde, D. Treas., Bro. Harnbr, D.T. One member was reported sick. Sister Bradstock reported on the District Delegates' meeting. Nominations were called for a delegate to the sports committee, Sister Bradstock being elected. Sister Hey (Star of Lower Hutt), Sister Harnor (Loyal William Bain), and Bro. Knight ■ (Newtown Alpha) were visitors. The meeting concluded with harmony. MANCHESTER UNITY. Loyal Combination Lodge.—Sister Wilton. N.G., presided over a well-attended meeting. Visitors were present from Loyal Petone and Newtown Lodges. and were accorded lodge honours. Bro. H. A. Harris replied. After the lodge had been closed an indoor bowls tourney and tabletennis contest was played .between. members of Petone and Combination Lodges. Loyal Newtown Lodge.—Bro. J. J. O'Callaghan, N.G., presided over a good attendance. Two new members were initiated, and several brothers elevated to the White and Blue Degrees. Messages of sympathy were passed to the relatives of the late Bros. W. H. Williams and H. Flower, who recently passed away, members standing in silence. Loyal Wellington Past Grands Lodge.— The recent half-yearly meeting: was attended by about thirty past grands. Several members received the 15.5., V.G., and N.G. degrees, the lectures being given by Bros G Bell, C. Johnson, and G. Cradclock. The D.G.M., Bro. V. Gooding, 'assisted by the 1.P.D.G.M., Bro. W. B. Brown, the D.G.M., Bro. K. Cropp, and Bro. E. W. Guise, D.S., advanced several sisters and brethren to the 'Purple Degree. A general discussion on ritual matters kept members interested until a late hour.
Hospital Association.—The annual meeting of the Manehestev Unity Hospital Association was held iv the Britannia Lodge Room recently, and was presided over hy the G.M., Bro. V. Goodwin. The meeting was attended hy representatives of all city and suburban lodges, as well as hy quite a few representatives of Wairarapa and Manawatu lodges. The annual report showed the association's affairs to he in a fairly good condition, although, due_ to the financial year closing a month earlier, the finances were slightly lower than last year. The membership decreased during the year from 1368 to 1347, which, owing to present-day conditions, was considered satisfactory. The new committee for 1934-35 resulted in Sister Reynard and Bros. S. Park, W. Wilson, T. H. Norris, W. B. Brown, and W. Allcoek being elected. Bro. K. Cropp wns elected vice-president, and Bro. V. Gooding president. Other elections were: —Trustees, Bros. C. 0. Jorgensen, W. H. Madeley, and A. Williamson: and auditors. Bros. S. Park and G. Bell.
Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge.—Sister 'Donslas, N.G.'. presided over a small attendance. A t lengthy discussion took place on ritual work. JTcmbevs wore reminded of the weekend visit to Loyal Masterton Eodgs.
