DESTROYED BY FIRE

CHRISTCHURCH, July 10. . Records of the Ashley district dating back to 1870 were destroyed by fire when the Ashley County Council office was burned to the ground early today. The most serious loss to tho county is the list of overdue, rates amounting to £900, and extending over four,years.

The office was a two-roomed building. The fire occurred between midnight and I o'clock. There were two safes in the office, but neither resisted the heat of the five. The building was insured for £120 with the New Zealand Insurance company.- .. . .
