UNION COMPANY'S- FLEET

Tenders are being called in Great Britain .by the , Union Steam Ship Company of New. Zealand for a new coastal vessel to replace the company's s.s. Opihi. The approximate dimensions of the new vessel will be: — Length, 220 ft; beam, 36ft 6in; depth to upper deck, 17ft; draught when loaded, about 16ft, assigned I3ft service; gross tonnage, 1060; net,- 520. tons; deadweight cargo, 800 tons on a 13ft draught. The cargo space will bo 60,000 cubic feet, ana tho vessel will have three hatches.. The speed on-trial is to be 12J knots; at sea, llf knots. The new vessel will be driven by a 1200 s.h.p. Diesel engine and a single screw. The winches will be electrically operated. .
