SHEEP-DOG TRIALS
(By Telegraph—Press association.) , DUNEDDT, June 22. . ; The South Island dog trial championships were completed at Middlemareh today, when the final event, the^ huntaway i with slew, was conducted.- The weather during the greater part of the day was warm and fine, tyit during the final runs o£ the event the weather became very cold, and l-ain commenced to fall, marring the runs to some extent. About 32 competitors entered for' the huntaway, the winner being C. H. Smith, of Oamaru, who also secured second place. Smith took second and third places in the first event, head and long pull, run earlier in the week, and thus takes pride o£ place among the successful competitors. J. W. Pearson, of Kyeburn, secured third place,' and fourth place was taken, by I". McGregor. ■ Results are:— ' , Hunting with slew, about a quarter of a mile, time lOmin; points, first poles 20, second poles 20, third poles 20, total 60—C. H. Smith's (Oamaru) Stan, 171% points, 1; C. H. Smith's Joe, 169% points, 2; J. W. 'Pearson's (Kyeburn) Dick,. 168 points, 3; P. McGregor's (Merton) Glen, 166 points, 4; M. A. Matheson's (Middlemarch) Cale, 160 points, 5; lan Anderson's. (Kurow) Bob, 158 points, 6. Thirtytwo competed. The annual meeting of the association tonight discussed the allocation: of future championships, and. it was decided that fixtures be given" to Canterbury, Southland, Marlborough, and Otago, in that order. The election of officers resulted as/follows:-4President,'Mr. R. W. Trotter (Kurow); vice-presidents, Messrs. R. M. D. Johnson (Canterbury) and J. B.
