FALSE REPRESENTATION
ALLEGED

John Frederick Amos, described by counsel as an accredited representative of the Moravian Church in Now Zealand, was remanded till Tuesday on a charge that he is .deemed to be a rogue and a vagabond, in that he imposed on a private .^individual by a faisft representation' with a view;-to obtaining money. ." Bail was ' allowed in £50, and a surety of £50. '
The police stated that Amos, was arrested late last night, and that inquiries had still to be made.
Counsel for the accused said that Amos's explanation was that he was collecting money for St. Martin's House of Help, 'and intended to hand tho money over, whatever the result of the case.
Tho sub-inspcetor said thnt> the authorities stated that Amos was not authorised'to collect at all.
Suppression of the name was refused, tho Magistrate (Mr. H. A. Young) saying that the newspapers were sure to montion that the accused was a minister' of religion, arid that there would be a lot who might or might not come under suspicion in-that case.
