WELLINGTON REGIMENT

LECTURE TO OFFICERS

The monthly meeting of officers of the Wellington Regiment was held on Tuesday last at the United Services Club. •

The lecture, for the evening dealt with military intelligence in the fielcl, and was given by the Battalion Intelligence Officer, Lieutenant F. McKenzie. The lecturer comprehensively traced the activities of the intelligence branch of the service and illustrated the channels of communication by means .of specially-prepared charts. It was quite evident from Lieutenant McKenzie's talk that the operations of the "I." branch play a most important part in the success of any engagement and can.be made an interesting study for all officers detailed for these duties. .-..■

The annual.rifle match between the sergeants and officers of the Wellington Regiment has now been arranged,! and two teams/from .each mess will compete for the honours. ".' ' .

In the syllabus of training for the Wellington Regiment during the coming year, two periods of concentrated training have been, arranged. Each of these will consist, of four consecutive night parades from Monday to Thursday, aad'will conclude with a weekend camp immediately following.- In addition,' six ordinary night parades have been scheduled, as well as the 'usual half-day parades for small-arms' training.

It will be generally agreed that the new system has many advantages, the chief of which is the added efficiency which always follows concentrated training. Moreover, it will leave the Territorial free for participation in sporting activities and yet hold the regiment together through the interspersing of night parades at regular intervals. It is hkely that the cix extra night parades "■ will be devoted to bayonet fighting, physical "jerks,")and recreational training.

Pay according to the scale laid down will .be granted, the first pay-out being probably at the end of November, which is a most suitable time, as it will arrive as a pleasant Christmas box for all ranks.
