HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING
STRICKLAND DEFEATS
LUTTRELL

CHRISTCHURCH, June 20,
The professional heavyweight boxinz title of New Zealand was at stake this evening in a bout between V. Luttrell (Hastings), 12.10, and M. Strickland (Wellington), 12.12.
Luttrell was knocked out early in the ninth round.
Ray Nicol (Invercargill),- holder of the title, was to have fought Luttrell, but Nicol was unable to fight' because of a boil on his arm, and voluntarily forfeited the title. It was a poor bout, and Luttrell only lasted so long because he was very fit.
In a professional featherweight bout, C Hurne (Wellington), 8.8, beat P. Hawes (Christchureh), 8.10, 'on points. It was a very even fight. .The title was not at stake.
