BUSH BEAT WAIRARAPA

A DOUR STRUGGLE

(By •Telegraph—Press Association.)

CAETERTOX, June 20.

Wairarapa and Bush met at Rugby .at Carterton today. The ground was heavy after two days' rain, otherwise the conditions were good.

The game resolved 'itself into a dour struggle, the heavy Bush forwards, led by Malioney, giving the Wairarapa pack all they wanted. The first spell ended without score, though Wairarapa seven times crossed the Bush line, the ball being either forced in the nick of time or running out of touch of the goal. Three times the corner flags were knocked down as ball and pJnyor were grounded.

The second spell saw Wairarapa speeding up their back-game for half air, hour, but >bad luck still pursued them." With sixteen minutes to go, the Bush backs, headed by MeSherry, staged a- good rush which was carried on by Verry and Mahoney, the latter scoring near the poles. Udy converted. Five minutes later a forward rush saw Bush close on the line, where Booth, who was offside, gave Udy too good a chance to miss. Bush 8, Wai-, rarapa nil. ~j- ■.. '. ■--; : .<■ .-.-, -,
