MR. CLYDE MEYNELL

LONDON, June 19. The death is announced of Mi, Clyde Meyneil, aged G7, the well-known theatrical manager.
Clyde Meyneil was born in 1867, educated_ for the medical profession, and practised as a physician and surgeon, but turned to the stage and made his first appearance in Victor Stevens's company in 1885. H© left the stage and completed his medical training only to return, to tho theatre, becoming a partner of Horace Lingard, and later being manager of theatres in Bournemouth and Southampton. For a time he was in partnership with Wentworth Croke, and then was appointed general manager and stage director of tho comtpany, which Sir Herbert Tree sent to Australia in 1902 under the management of Messrs. J. C. Williamson. He : remained in Australia to manage the company headed by Julius Knight and Maude Jeffries, and later was in partnership with John Gunn, their first I venture being a tour with J. J. Dallas [and Florence Lloyd in "Tho Fatal Wedding," "The Midnight Wedding," "Her Love Against tho World," aud other plays. Sir Eupcrt Clarke then joined tho firm, and they produced "Miss Hook of Holland," "The Belle of Mayfair," "The Girl Behind tho Counter," and other plays. It was under their auspices that Oscar Ascho and Lily Brayton paid their first Ausj tralian visit while others who appeared under their management were Matheson Lang and Hutin Britton and company. Subsequently the firm amalgamated with Messrs. J. C. Williamson.
