TO LEAVE GERMANY
ENGLISH JOURNALIST
OFFICIAL. STATEMENT
("Times" Cables.) (Received June 1, 2 p.m.)
BEKLIjST, May 31. The police have rearrested Mr. Pembroke Stephens, correspondent of the "Daily Express."
An official statement says that Mr. Stephens has been ordered to leave Germany because he "constantly misrepresents and frivolously reports German conditions and grossly misuses Germany's hospitality. Such an exercise of the journalistic profession does not serve for the necessary rapprochement and pacification between peoples, but ;is calculated to poison public opinion and hinder good relations between Germany and other countries." Mr. Stephens has been removed to the headquarters of the secret police, and is not permitted to communicate with his London office.
