INQUIRY NOT DEEMED NECESSARY
A complaint of the president' of tlio New Zealand Small-farms League that unsuitable land at excessive prices is being, acquired for the small-farm applicants, thus threatlning a repetition of the soldier settlement trouble, is replied to by the Prime Minister as follows:—
"Kegarding your'isuggestion' that an impartial inquiry should be made into recent acquisition of land under the Small-farms Act, I have to say that it is not proposed to set up a Special Committee to inquire into the matter, as such a course is not deemed necessary. I would point out, however, that land for such purposes is acquired by the- Government on the recommendation of the Small-farms Board and" sub-com-mittees set up under the Act to advise the board in such matters.' After conferring with my colleague, the: Hon. the Minister of Lands, who is administer, ing the • Small-farms (Belief of Unemployment)' Act, I can see na grounds for the fears which you have expressed in your letter under reply." ,
