FOR A.J.C. DERBY
RADIANT STAR'S TRIP
HAWERA TRAINER'S TEAM
The Hawera trainer J. T?-ryor, who lias ! been in indifferent health for some time, contemplates getting away for a trip to Australia shortly after the Great Northern Meeting. He will take some horses -ivith iim. . The .rising three-year-olds Eadiant Star and Eollovant are to be taken over, and Oriel and Ruri are also likely to make the trip. "• '''..' i Eadiant Star, who has been on the easy list, has been taken up again and is doing light exercise. He ds developing into a grand-looking three-year-old,, and his future looks decidedly * promising. Badiant. Star is l)y Hunting Song ..from '. Spotlight, and he was entered for the next A;j.C. Derby, iun in" the. spring. -This season, this colt only raced once, winning a .juvenile, handicap at Stratford at the New .Year Meeting .anH creating a big impression. .His, dam, Spotlight, is nicely bred, icing by' Nassau from Stardancer, a daughter '.of. Martian and Stepdancer, by .Slepniak from Pibroch, by Loehiel. Radiant Star is • a half-brother- to tlie pronaising Silver Beam. His second dam, Stardancer, was a successful and prolific brood mare, producing the Auckland Cup winner, Starland, as well as Limelight, Papevchase, Starshooter, Metal Bird, and others, while her daughter Limelight, by Solferino, won a Great Autumn Handicap. It is good breeding, and on this alone Radiant Star is good enough to.be considered as a serious contender for A.J.C. Derby honours, provided he goes on the right .-way in the interim. :'■'■- . ■
Rollovant, also- a two-year-old, is also in the A.J.C. Derby'entrants, but on their form this' season the odds are heavy against this youngster .rising ■to classic status., But of course some two-year-olds make extraordinary ' progress in between seasons, and while at^the present time Badiant Star appears to' be well I above_ Eollovant's standard, the latter may improve considerably; tKere was certainly plentyofscopefor.it. Rollovant is. also by Hunting Song,, from Car: niola, by Autumn from' Serbia, a daughter of Multifid and Lady Onisme, by Cuirassier.
