EXCELLENT WORK DONE

AN ENCOURAGING REPORT

The 30th annual report of the Levin Memorial Home is a cheerful and gratifying account of good'work done at the home, and for the benefit of uiauy girls.

There are at present 2-1 resident girls, their ages ranging from three years to fourteen; all attend school, two are at the Technical College, and some of the little ones are at the kindergarten. A matter for pleasure and congratulation is the fact that the "old girls" have such a keen interest in the home, many visit it after leaving, and one this year bad several of tho present girls for a holiday visit, which, wag greatly enjoyed. A tribute is paid to the work of the matron, Miss Kichardson, and to that of Mrs. Millar and Mrs. Rowlands. _ Miss Osborue continues her good service in the St. Joha Cadet Division, and also with tt/e life-saving training, in which tho Lyall Bay Club assisted. Twelve girls passed a re-examination in tne ambulance work, two passed both first aid aad borne nursing, nine qualified for a one-year service stripe, and another for a three years' star. It is believed that all this instruction will be invaluable to them in after life. Tbe kindly voluntary work of Miss Carwell Cpoke in teaching deportment and dancing is mentioned with much gratitude and appreciation. Thanks to Mrs. Knox Gilmer for presiding- at the annual gift tea are given, the proceeds from the stalls being £48, and with donations the amount received was £75, Thanks are expressed to Dr. Gordon Kemp for care and attention; to Messrs. Young, White, and Courtney for free legal services; to the ladies' Auxiliary for splendid wprk for the benefit of the home; to the Wellington Commercial Travellers, the Marsden School girls, to Mrs, IjJrie Luke, and other friends who made the Christmas holidays such a happy time for the girls; and also to, those who placed the home among the institutions which benefited by the will of tbq late John Scott, of Bunedin. Thanks are also expressed to the newspapers for kindly help in publishing reports and notices. Peep regret is expressed at; the loss by death Pf a valued friend, Mrs. W. 1?, Christie, of Levin; who was a life member pf tho home. Mesdames C. Levin and Luke1 were welcomed this year as members of1 the committee. General cordial thanks are given for gifts, service, and work to the follow' ing, it being stated that where so many have been kind it is not possible to individualise :^Two Garment Society, for regular supply of a wide range of assorted garments; Hawke's Bay Fisheries,' Juvenile Concert League, Mr. Yatcs, Welfare Department, Health Department, Dental' Clinic, Mr. Elliott, St.'Giles's Bible Class, Kelburn Training College staff, Wellington Bast Girls' College, Denhard Bakeries, Wellington Automobile Club, Mrs. Marshall, Miss Whitehorn, Mr. Gray, Pukerua Bay; Island B?y Pictures, Spinster Club, St. Mark's Church School," Department of Internal Affairs, St. Cuthbert's Boys' Bible Class, Toe H and Toe Emma, Miss Bailey. Ohakea; St. Peter's G.IT.S. Club, Trinity Methodist Bible Class, and Mr. Lavclle. ■ . ■
