SEALING BUS ROUTES
LOWER HUTT PROPOSAL
On the motion of Councillor J. E. Napier, the Lower Hutt Borough Council Jast evening decided to ask the works committee to consider the ques-tion-of having Leighton, Waikare, and 'Moana Avenues sealed, the Eailway Bus; Department being asked to bear part of the cost. . -.■■'":'
Councillor Napier said that these were streets over which the buses ran to.the garage-and complaints had b^en made to him about the dust nuisance. The woar on the roads was very heavy, owing to the heavy buses. The cost of sealing would be £375, as against £225 for sealing the corners only. Councillor Ginger said that if the roads were graded as in some boroughs the buses would be prohibited, as no vehicle over four tons gross would be allowed. The buses weighed up to .15 tons. It would pay the Department to contribute, to save wear and toar on the buses.
The Nelson Smith Family conducted a most successful clothes drive On Saturday, a huge pile of clothing being collected for distribution to necessitous cases during the winter. Plenty of cars were made available for the drive, and the Smiths, who had organised the effort very carefully, were assisted by Scouts and Guides.
