PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Mayor (Mr. D. McKenzie) presided over a meeting of the Petone Borough Council last night. There were also present Councillors G. London, J. C. Burns E. T. E. Hogg, J. Cumming, and W. B.'. Edwards.
Requests from the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society and the Petone District Nurse Committee for financial assistance were deferred for consideration with the estimates. . . ,
An inquiry from the Wellington City Council'as-to whether the'council desires aii extension of the heavy traffic agreement which, expires on May 31, or whether it desires a revision of the existing basis of allocation was referred to the finance committee. The same committee was asked to deal with a report of a sub-com-mittee of the Municipal Association on the subject of local body taxation.
Permits for buildings to the value of £3083- were issued in April, according to the', report of the borough engineer (Mr. C. L. Jackson). ' . ,
The borough inspector (Mr. W. B. Gough) reported that in April two cases of scarlet fever were notified to him. ■: The inspector also reported •: that the senior-sergeant of police had' offered his hearty < co-operation in. an., endeavour to put a stop to the: dangerous i praqtice of cycling at night without; lights.; The council went into, committee on the estimates.
