FINE WEATHER

BUT A CHANGE COMING

The weather should continue to be fair to fine aria uiild, with little wind, according to the official forecast issued at noon today, but a change may be expected soon. Eain will develop shortly in westorn districts from Taranaki southwards, gradually extending northwards, and later to eastern parts of the South Island. North to north-westerly winds are anticipated, strong south of New Plymouth and Castlcpoint; but elsewhere moderate.

Fine, mild, and pleasant weather generally, with light variablo winds, during the weekend was associated with an anticyclone which covered the Tasman Sea and most of the Dominion. A slight depression, howovor, passing to the southwards during Saturday, accounted for some showers in the Foveaux Strait, area, and since last night a rather intense depression of the westerly type, which has been moving on to tho South Island, has been responsible for showers in Westland and the far south.

Auckland experienced fine and pleasant weather during tho weekend, with a variablo wind. Conditions wero still clear and calm at 0 a.m. today. Beautifully fine and mild conditions also prevailed at Wellington. Saturday was rather cloudy, but for the rost of the time the skies woro clear and there was little wind. At 9 o'clock this morning a fresh north-westerly wind was Wowing but the weather was still fine.

Christehurch had mild, calm days and cold, frosty nights. Tho weather was still calm and fino this morning. A southerly breeze prevailed at Dunedin on Saturday and the weather was cloudy at times. Yesterday was calm and bright and this morning a light south-westerly wind, with fair weather, was reported.

Mr. 11.I1. It. Burnham, general secretary for New Zealand, Southern Cross Assurance Co., Ltd., returned today by the Makura after a visit to Australia.
