CAPSIZE OF TUG
CREW TRAPPED IN HULL
RESCUE EFFORT FAILS

BERLIN, May 13. While berthing the liner Albert Ballin the tugboat Merkur fouled the bows and sank. The captain and five of the crew were rescued. Later the tug reappeared, floating bottom upwards. Tappings were heard in the hull, in which eight others ware1 imprisoned, including the cook's wife. The rescuers unsuccessfully tried to liberates them by means of bxy-acety-lene burners. Hope of rescue was abandoned.
