MAHENO UNSUITABLE
SERVICE TO MELBOURNE
SOUTH ISLAND COMPLAINT

DUNEDIN, This Day.
An influential deputation to the Hon. A. Hamilton this morning in. regard to the proposed Melbourne-South Island service urged that the Haheno was so unsuitablo that they would prefer no service to hers; that the proposed fares were too highj that the service was i commencing a month too late-; and that Tasmania should be in the itinerary.
Mr. H. C. Campbell said that the Mahcno was so unsuitable that it would be wrong to grant a subsidy." There were three other companies in Australia for which it would bo a, golden, ehanee to start a service.
Tho Minister promised to discuss the matter with the Prime Minister and other members of Cabinet. He expressed somo surprise that the deputation would sooner have no service than the Maheno.
