AN AFTERNOON TEA
A KINDLY FAREWELL
The : Hataitai sub-committee of the Plunkct Society gave an afternoon tea yesterday in the Palm. Lounge of the Hotel St. George in-: honour of soveral committee members-who aro retiring from aetivo service on- the committee. These included ;Mrs...Carswell (secretary), Mrs. Dixon (vice-president), Miss Peach, Mrs. Gordon,'-. Mi;s. Brightiug, Mrs. Clark, and Mrs.. Williams. It was with great regret .that these ladies were bidden farew,ell. -Mrs. S. E. Luke said she felt they were.starting tho year badly by losing such-valued helpers. The committee was fortunate in retaining Mrs. Brighting,.-who.,:will still keep her bridge circle active.' Mrs. M. McRae made a special speech of appreciation of the services »:of Miss Peach, and expressed the pleasure of all tka't her retirement was for a • year only. Mrs. Ardell spoke also in,high praise of the guests of honour.; Mrs. Brighting replied on behalf of the other guests and herself. Others, present included Mosdames Coates, -D'owsett, Dunlop, Baigent, Freeman, E. H. M. Luke, Loigh-Hunt, Reed, Hardie Boys, Griffiths, Highet, Tennant, AVilsou, and Britton.
