THE OLDEST TANKER

What is probably the oldest vessel in existence carrying petroleum in bulk is the tanker Looeh, 1624 tons gro.*s, plans of which were approved bsLloyd's Register in July, 1886. Sli's continued .to appear in the register, under the name of Loutseh, and later Lady Elinor, until 1928.

The vessel was of Russian nationality, and in ID2B her name was omitted from the Register as it was reported she had been taken over by the Soviet authorities in the Black Sea, and no trace of her could be found. When the Russian Government issued its first Register of Ships in 1932, she appeared under the name of Chaumian, under which name she now appears in Lloyd's Register.
