VICAR DEFIANT
ORDER TO VACATE
AWAITING A RULING
(By Telegrapn.—Press Association.)
CAMBRIDGE, This Day.
A further development associated with the action of the bishop of the diocese in declaring the living of St. Andrew's vacant is an instruction received from Bishop Cherrington by 'the Eev. G. G. Bell to vacate the vicarage by June 11.
This morning Mr. Bell reiterated his contention that he is still vicar of Cambridge until a ruling his been received by him from the Standing Commission, and that in view of that he will remain in residence at th<? vicarage.
Referring f 0 the Sunday services, Mr. Bell expresscda desire not to cause any unpleasantnoss in connection with, any unavoidable clash of services. He stated tliat ho had -written to tho Eev. S. B. Warcing, vicar of Te Awanmtvt, and had thanked him for-agreeing to take a service at Ohau'po tomorrow morning as arranged by tho bishop. Ho had also written to tho bishop's appointee at Tamahere for tomorrow morning, the Boy. C.' W. Clark, and had advised him of Mr. Bell's intention to hold a service at St. Stephen's at Ml a.m. .. '
The Rev. Mr. Clark, who is a resident of Cambridge and formerly was assistant curate at St. Andrew's, has been appointed bishop's surrogate to perform marriages in the parish. The Rev. Mr. Bell having let the new parish hall to St. Peter's Catholic Church for a dance, the parishioners' annual meeting the same night will have to be held in the old hall, which is inadequate to hold the number that has been present at previous meetings.
