STRONG M.C.C. TEAM

(By "Not Out.")

The Australian cricketers make theii appearance at Lord's today; and in thechosen M.C.C. team they will meet a side particularly strong in'batting and quite well off in bowling. The match is not to be regarded as an unofficial Test, nor is the personnel of the M.C:C. team to be accepted as indicating prospective Test representatives. The fact that A. P. F. Chapman is captainingthe M.C.C. team is not to say that lie will be leading England, though, of course, there is that possibility. As was pointed out recently, however, B. E. S. Ws-att, who is in the M.C.C. team, appears to have strongest claims to thecaptaincy, and his selection as a Test player is already supported this season, by his splendid batting form. Also in the M.C.C. team are B. H. Valentino (Jardine's understudy in India) and M. J. Turnbull (who was in New Zealand with A. H. H.. Gilligan's team), botl of whom have been spoken of as eandfr dates for England's captaincy. The* there is J. C. White, an ex-vice-captain of England against Australia, but he t* no longer regarded as a Test player,The others making up a formidable sidr are the Key. E. T. Killiek, I\ K. Brow? (who was with Jardine's team in Australia and New Zealand), I. A. E. Peebles (who was a' strong candidate for the last tour of Australia), P. C Oldfield (Oxford "University wicket* keeper), E. Hendren (who "has repre< sonted England in many a campaign), and W. E. Bowes (a member of Jar dine's team in Australia).
