MAILS FOR AMERICA
MAKURA'S MISSED TRIP
A large part of the mail which would normally have been taken by the B.M.S. Makura on her northward trip from-Sydney to San Francisco, via Wellington, was carried by the New Zealand Shipping Company's motor-ship Bangitata when she left Auckland last night for London, via Panama. The Makura is due- here on Monday from Sydney, and will withdraw for overhaul, necessitating other arrangements for the transport of mail.
In addition to the mail taken by theBangitata, the Union Company's chartered tanker Storanger, now discharging a cargo of fuel oil from San Pedro at Miramar, will take mail for Canada, the United States of America, Mexico, and the West Indies when she leaves here tomorrow on her, return journey to San Pedro.- Tie Bangitata's mail for America will be- landed at Panama.
To fill other gaps in the mail service caused by the withdrawal of the Makura; a. mail for Papeete will be taken from Auckland by the Niagara, nest Tuesday, and will be transhipped to the trans-Pacific freighter Hauraki at Sydney. Mails for the Cook Islands will be forwarded by the Islands steamer Karetu, which should leave Auckland . about June 6.
. Arrangements have also been made for specially addressed mail to ho taken from "Wellington by the Shaw, Savill freighter Mahia when she leaves next Tuesday for London, via Panama.
