NO ACTION LOCALLY
The;action proposed by trades unions inChristchurch is apparently along tho lines' generally approved at the two ■recent: Labour conferences, the first of which was attended by delegates representing 20,000 trades unionists and the* second representative of 30,000 Labour supporters. These conferences •were unanimously of the opinion that anendeavour should be made to secure the restoration of wage cuts and a shortening ■of working hours. It was ajso^the opinion of delegates that steps should-'be taken to arrange a national conference of employers and employees to consider- the broad-questions as ab.oyeand to endeavour to reach agree-inent.op.'a-policy which would assist industrial and business recovery in the Dominion.
So far no concerted action has apparently been taken in Wellington, though; individual unions are negotiating .with-employers and in some eases cuts-have been restored or restoration is to be made from dates in the near future.
