WEEKEND WEATHER

Tho weather forecast issued at noon today., although it does not presume to cover more than twenty-four hours ahead, holds,out fairly promising ,prospects for the weekend. Winds will be light to moderate, with south-easterlies prevailing to tho north of Greymouth ana Kaikoura. There will bo a gradual tendency, however, for easterly or northerly winds. ~ South, of ! those two points freshening north-easterly" winds may be expected, and these will back later to the west or sputh-west, •; Fine and milder weather is ; forecast for most districts, but. on the East Coast between Cape Palliser and East Cape there may. be still a few isolated .showers, arid shower's will develop later in Westland and in the Fovqaux Strait area.

Very unpleasant squally and showery weather with a strong southerly wind, continued to prevail yesterday along the East Coast, but elsewhere- the weather was fine. By this morning an anticyclone had extended over the Dominion as a whole, and fine and rather milder weather was being experienced almost generally. At 9 a.m.today East Cape was the only locality to report showers. The southerly winds have decreased everywhere in force.

Fine and sunny weather is continuing in Auckland, but a keen breeze from the south-east yesterday kept'temperatures on the low side.

Wellington had another day of cold and squally weather. There were, however, between the passing showers brief intervals of brighter weather. The strong southerly wind decreased in force during the afternoon and night and had by this morning become only a light breeze, and thero v was also a material improvement in tho weather Yesterday's rainfall amounted to five points at Kelburn and to two in Lower Hutt. . ■:.•■■••
