MAIN HIGHWAYS BOARD
VACANCY FILLED
MR. E, L. GREENSMITH
The Minister of Public Works (the Hon. J. Bitchener) announced yesterday that it had been decided to appoint Mr. E. L. Greensmith, of the Public Works Department, to the Main Highways Board to fill the vacancy caused by the recent death of Mr. J. J. Gibson.
Mr. Greensmith first joined the Public Works Department in 1915, since when he has held various positions in district offices as well as in branches of the head office. In 192g he was appointed assistant accountant to the Department and for the last six months he lias acted as accountant. Mr. greensmith qualified as a professional f accountant by examination in 1925. Three years later he took his B.Com. degree, following which ho obtained his M.Com. degree with honours in 1930.
The late Mr. Gibson, as accountant of the Public Works Department, was one of the original members of the Mam Highways Board, and in the appointment of Mr. Greensmith to fill the present vacancy the board's contact with the financial side of its activities will still be directly maintained, the board's accounts being handled by the Public Works Department. '
