ON TRENTHAM TRACKS
THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS
NEW SCHOOLING CIRCUIT
(By "Rangatira.")
Trentham stables will have half a dozen or so horses racing next week, mainly at Nelson, and the fast work at the tracks this morning was confined mainly to them. Only two horses were jumped,, but the laying-out of the new schooling circuit is not yet quite completed, though' there remains only another day or two's work to finish it. The weather was fine, and the plough track was used for tho galloping. Purse (J. K.\ Robertson) waited for Roderick Dhu (A. Henshaw) after going away a couple of lengths to the good at the half-mile, but over the closing stages she drew out again to win the gallop by three • lengths in oOjsec. Flower, who will accompany Purse to Nelson,.was exercised only.
Tunbridgo (P. Burgess), who is to contest the Mart on Steeples next week, had First View (S. Wilson) for a companion over a mile and he' was always in the roar, finishing' two lengths behind the three-year-old in Imin 48scc, the first half-mile taking 53Jseo and tho lasts half-mile 54-lsec. " Although beaten in very average time, Tunbridge performed satisfactorily for a steeplechaser, and as ho gave a rousing exhibition of jumping over four'of the bigger fences on Thursday, in' company with Araios, he should prove capable of holding his own in the LJarton cross-country company.
Palace (Eobcrtson) and Lovccourt (J. I. McCauley) sprinted six furlongs, the mare finishing a neck in front in lniin' 17-Jscc, the last half-mile in 52sec. Bay Area (MeCaiAy) went well in beating Colossical (Wilson) by a couple of. lengths over the .same distance in lmiii lGAsec, the last half-milo in 50jsec. Colossieal also performed satisfactorily, as he is always heavily shod. ■ ,
Epigram (Eobcrtson) was'much .too good for Quebec (Wilson) over half a miie, giving his mate a two-length start and a similar-beating in 50sec. It is unlikely at present that Epigram will, go to MartojL, as he would there have to meet Cadland at less than a stone difference. in weights and he is set to concede weight to- practically all' the rest of the field.
Normandy (Burgess) was schooled over the pony hurdle and the three bigger hurdles already erected in their new position, and after running down the first two he jumped the last two satisfactorily. Chile (Burgess) wa's also schooled, jumping cleanly but carefully and rather high. ■ ,
With the rest of the horses in work it, was mainly a routine running. 'The first racing for most of them will not be till the Otaki Meeting in June.
