JUDGES SENT TO PRISON
What were described as "the most extraordinary cases in the annals of Japan's judiciary" were concluded in Tokio recently. Four Judges from the district Courts 6? the capital and other centres were sentenced to imprisonment, the terms ranging* from three to eight years, for participating in the Communist movement. A clerk of one of the Courts received a sentence of .ton years, and a Judge-elect, together with three Court clerks, two years, but the latter were released on probation. The trial lasted, nearly a year, but the Court expedited ilio ..proceedings in the later stages to enable the Judges and others to benefit by the amnesty that was to be declared to mark; the birth of an heir to the Throne.
