SEARCH BY AIR

NO SIGN OF MACHINE

Plight-Lieutenant Eawnsloy, in / a Wellington Aero Club- machine, returned to Eongotai this afternoon after searching between Terawhiti and Wellington Head, near Tory Channel.

Speaking to 'a "Post" reporter, Flight-Lieutenant Eawnsley said he saw no sign of 'the missing aeroplane. Visibility .was shocking, and conditions were too bad to permit of the search being extended to the Marlborough Sounds. He saw no signs of bush fires, but there was a very heavy fog. It was ascertained on inquiry at Terawhiti Station today that an aeroplane had been heard in the vicinity this morning. Dense fog, however, made visibility very bad, and the machine was not actually seen. Conditions were still bad this afternoon. One aeroplane had been observed there, flying at a very low altitude, about 12.45 p.m. :
