COOLER WEATHER
BUT GENERALLY 'FINER
With the departure eastward of the depression which caused yesterday's unpleasant weather, and with the approach from the westward of an anticyclone, an improvement in the weather may be expected, according to the forecast issued at noon today. Winds will be moderate to strong south-westerlies or, southerlies,: and; these;; ori^parts:.-• of the East Coast "may reach force, but their strength will be decreasing gradually. The weather will be mainly fair to fine with cool temperatures, although some scattered showers are likely at first, more especially in eastern districts. Some inland frosts may be expected tonight in the South Island. _,; Saturday's weather was mostly, fine, but it became unsettled during the night owing to the approach of a fresh westerly depression. ThisJ crossed the Dominion, yesterday and caused^ strong north-westerly to westerly winds*. Rain fell in many places, some of the falls in, western districts being' heavy.'"; The depression passed rapidly away eastward, last- "night, and since then there has,been a general change to southerly or south-westerly winds with'the usual faR in temperatures. .Although :sh'owers were repotted this morning: from ■ various districts, there was a distinct improvement today in the weather owing to the approach of an anticyclone. Auckland's weather early on Saturday was showery, but it. subsequently became firie'and sunny.. Sunday'was a fine day, but some showers fell last night. The wind in the northern city has been a moderate south-westerly. ; Wellington had fine and pleasant weather.on Saturday. The morning's light northwesterly wind freshened somewhat "during the afternoon. Sunday was an unpleasant day with -a squally north-westerly wind and dull and "threatening weather. Late in the afternoon misty rain began to fall, and this continued all the evening. A fall of only two points, however, .was registered at Kelburn. Fair but cloudy weather prevailed in Christchurch on Saturday, light rain falling during the night. Tho weather on Sunday,was dull, showers fhlling in tho afternoon. The wind was a cold one from the north-east. Dunedin had unsettled weather over the weekend, Saturday being cold and showery with a light and variable wind. Steady rain fell during Sunday, when the wind was a light one from tho north-east.
