BROUGHAM HILL LEADING
By defeating the Wellington A team on Saturday at Miramar, Brougham Hill A won their way to the lead of the first division men's championship in the interclub tennis competitions. Brougham Hill, however, by taking ten sets to eight and 90 games to 71. established their superiority. University A had a clear-cut win over Newtown, winning six matches to one and 86. games, to 75. Roussell was unfortunate not to record a victory.- Roussell won the first set G-4, and was 5-aIl and 30-15 in tho second set when solid play'by his opponent saw the sets evened. In the deciding set France was playing at his best and forcing Roussell into mistakes, with the result that the latter lost his grip on the game and went down 0-love. D. Coombe scored a win for Wellington by defeating It. Howe in straight sets,; 6-4, 6-4. ~ Practically all the doubles matches ■ were marred by bad net-play, few of the competitors except France and Koitssell showing anything like consistency in their smashing.
