Girl Guides. Tlie Wellington Division of Girl Guides held its annual swimming sports at the Thorndon Baths on Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance of girls, and the races were very keenly contested. Miss Walker (District Commissioner for Wellington North) provided afternoon tea. At the conclusion of the races Miss M. Ward, Division Commissioner, presented the cups and tho prizes to the successful competitors, and in a brief speech thanked Mr. Neil and his assistants who so ably controlled and judged the races. Miss Scaly (District Commissioner for the Hutt Valley) and Miss Morton (Commissioner for Wellington South) were also present. Welcome to New Students. The. new students to Victoria University College were welcomed on Saturday afternoon by a well-arranged mixed "Yankee" tennis tournament, followed by a dance and social in the college gymnasium in the evening. There was a good attendance of old and new students on both, occasions, and everyone spent a very enjoyable time. "'-•'. League of Mothers. The Miramar branch of the League of Mothers recently held its opening meeting for the year in the Methodist Hall. Mrs. A. L. Wall presided over a large attendance, including several new ■members. The hall was tastefully decorated with vases of asters and Michaelmas daisies. Miss Kiley ' (the speaker for the afternoon) gave a very inspiring address, entitled "Some Aspects of Service." Solos were rendered by Miss Nora Green and Mrs. Rossitcr. While afternoon tea was being served Mrs. Welch, accompanied by Mrs. Bontell, gave several mandolin. items. An enjoyable afternoon was spent by all present. Woodford House Old Girls. . Mrs. Lance Moore, president of the Wellington branch of the Woodford House Old Girls' Association, presided at a meeting held recently, when the members met the association secretary and wero told of the activities of the .central branch in Hawke's Bay and also heard news of the school. There are now ten branches of this association in New Zealand and in London. The members show much interest, and though the association is only six months old it is proving to bo-a strong organisation. Mrs. McAlley, the association secretary, and two of the Hawke's Bay old girls, Mesdames'M. Chambers and E. Couper, will leave shortly for Blenheim, and go on to Christchurch, meeting secre* taries, giving addresses, and discussing plans for the spreading of the association, and drawing in, as far as possible, all old girls of the school. They hope to stimulate and maintain interest in the school, and help practically all former pupils and their families. Afternoon Reception. A delightful tea was given by Mrs. Frank Goldberg in the Palm Lounge of the Hotel St. George to her many friends and relatives this afternoon. Pale greeii table cloths adorned the tables, on which were placed bowls of carnations, sweetpeas, gladioli, and pink lilies. Mrs. Frank Goldberg, who was gowned in an ensemble of black and white, made a delightful hostess and her two daughters, Cara and Inez, assisted to entertain the guests. Among those present were Mrs. A. Levy, Mrs. David Markham, Mrs. Harry Levy, Mrs. Goldstein, Mrs. Stan Levy, Mrs. Lou Levy, Miss E. Rose, Miss Gibbons, Miss Van Staveren, Miss Lena Van Stavereh, Mrs. Phil. Myers, Mrs. Jackson, Miss Levy, Mrs. Samuels, Mrs. Cane, Miss Cane, Miss Marks, Mrs. Rylands, Mrs. Israel, Mrs. A. Barnett, Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Katz,. Miss Katz, Mrs. H. Levy, Mrs. Jacobs, Mrs. A. Jacobs, Miss Townsend, Mrs. Little, Miss. Bagnail,' Mrs. Emden, Mrs. Hart.
