Tim Buck, the Communist leader, who is serving a. sentence of seven years for unlawful: conspiracy, was not permitted to testify at the trial of the Rev.' A.. E. Smith, a noted Communist, charged with stating that the Premier (Mr. R. 8.-Bennett) had ordered the prison guards to shoot Tim' Buck in his cell. . ■ ' ■ ; The prisoner had just taken the box when prosecuting counsel, Mr..-"Peter White, objected on the grounds that even if Buck was shot at, it did not prove Smith's declaration that the Premier, .Mr. E.
