GOLDEN WINGS'S FAILURE Foursome, the winner of this year's Ncwmaiket Handicap at Flcmmgtou last Saturday, has been a useful performer tluoughout his caiecr, but Ins successes in the main havo been in South Australia; where lie was bred and is owned by Mr; A. E.. Michael. Foui>omc opened Ins piesent campaign in Victoria early in the year, and at Caulfield in January he van a dead-heat for first over six luilongs in lnnn Usee, a leeoid for that couise. Ho was the c.nly leadei in the (Jaklcigh Plate, won by Frist Money, and „c finished* fitth. Ho is a si_-jeai-old bay gelding by Two (a son of The Welkin) tiom the Juggler . mare Ethic, Ins dam having done veiy little lacing Two, a wirmcr of tho A.J.C. Champagne Stakes, went to the stud in South Australia at the end'of his thfee-ycar-okl carer, and .he has been very successful as a sue of spunteis. The performance of Golden Wings in this race would have been a body blow to his New Zealand admirers, but it will be recalled that he failed somewhat similarly iv the last C J.C. Stewards'. Golden Wings is not lacking in solidity or courage, but all his racing. shows that he does not like a long fight.
