MAGISTRATE'S COURT
. Cases in the Magistrate's Court yesterwere dealt with by Mr. E. Page, S.M. Pleading guilty to a third statutory offence of drunkenness, Joseph Daley, aged 32, a fireman, and James Daley, aged 34, a labourer, were each fined £1, in default seven days' imprisonment. For obtaining from Eodgers and Hall £30 by a false pretence, a charge to which he pleaded guilty, Clarence Whiting, aged 28, a carpenter, was admitted to probation for two .years. . Chief-Detective Carroll said that Whiting had sold to Eodgers and Hall for £30 a motor-cycle on which: there was still money owing to the-'original owners, a Stratford^ firm. He had represented that the machine was his "own property and unencumbered. Eodgers and Hall had had to make restitution .to. the Stratford firm and were accordingly out o£ pocket to the extent of £26 7s Gd. ; Whiting said he'knew he-had been foolishyand he agreed to repay the money to Eodgers and Hall. He was ordered to. refund the £20 7s 6d at a rate to be fixed by the probation officer. ' ■ ' : Cases in the Magistrate's Court totlav were dealt with by-, Mr. E. Pago, S.M. " A further remand until Friday was granted in the case in which Leonard Aiundell Assheton Harbord, aged 33 a salesman, and Charles Leonard AVcbb, ?i geS. J a Balesnla n» are charged with the theft of a radio set, valued at £15, the property of H. Nimmo and Sons, Ltd. James McCarthy, aged 33, a hotel porter, pleaded guilty to being found drunk and to behaving in a. disorderly manner. He was convicted and discharged on the former count and was fined £1 on the latter. Ap application tor the suppression of his name was refused.
