HONORARY JUSTICES

ANNUAL MEETING Oificera for the ensuing year were elected as follows at the annual meeting o£ Lhe Wellington District Honorai'y Justices of the Peace Association on Monday night: —President, the Et. Hon. Sir Michael Myers; vice-presidents, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Mr. E. Page, S.M., and Mr. W. G. Riddell; lion, solicitors, Mesei'3. Salek, Turner, and Brown; hon. auditor, Sir. A. M. Anderson; hon. treasurer, Mr. H. W. Lloyd; lion,, registrar, Mr. J. L. Arcus; council, Messrs. 11. W. Armit, H. P. Hopkins, and A. Longraore. The annual report of the association gave the membership as 449, and stated that there was a credit balance in the bank of £434 ls-Sd. The eleven monthly meetings of the executive during the year were well attended, and emergency meetings had also been held. During the year members of the association and their lady friends had been privileged to listen to addresses by his Honour Mr. Justice Blair and by Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M. "As in the past our activities have been directed mainly towards benevolence. to discharged, prisoners," said the repprt. "In this connection it was apparent there was likely to be some overlapping o£ the activities, and accordingly we arranged with Mr. T. P; Mills, secretary of the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society, to meet any payments on our account that he considered would be justified. This system has been working for the past year, and has proved satisfactory,' and we record our thanks to Mr.'Mills for the 'assistance he has given to the association. - Remits to be.sent to the conference of the Federated Justices of the Peace Associations were: discussed and passed. Two delegates will be sent to the conference, which is to' be held in Auckland next week. , Two remits, from other centres, concerning women police and the need for more privacy :in; domestic Courts, were approved for support at the forthcoming conference., A number of suggestions were made in regard to the regulation of motor traffic. They ' are to' be referred to the North and South Island Motor Unions. ■ ' Mr. A. Longmore ' presided in the absence of the.
