ATHLETIC STARS
THIS WEEK'S MEETING
J ho need of a visit to Now Zealand by athletes from overseas has been felt for some time, and the controlling body of amateur athletics in New Zealand has been fortunate in securing such (me athletes as Metealfc, Hampson, and Barwick, of Australia, to supply the need. Already. these athletic visitors havo given ample illustration of their drawing powers, and the record of achievement at each successive meeting at which they have appeared in the youth Island has created a keener anticipation of the meeting at which they are to compete next Saturday—that to be held at the Basin Reserve. Metcalfe, who is setting up an .amazing list of outstanding performances as a jumper will in himself be a great attractionno greater of the kind has ever been offered in this country—and there will be the speed of Hampson in sprint events, as well as improved running by Barwick, the Australian distance champion, to add to the attractiveness of a meeting which holds out promise of much brilliant performance. Apart from events in which the Australians are to compete there will be many others, including contests for the Blmulcll, Riddiford, and Kitto Cup.s.
