THUNDER AND RAIN

OPERATIC SOCIETY

(Special to the "Evening Post.") NELSON, March 4. After sultry weather conditions for the past few days, a short but severe electrical disturbance last evening cleared the atmosphere and left the temperature considerably, cooler today. Heavy clouds came in from the south during the latter part of the afternoon, and at about 7 o'clock a storm broke over the- city. The- lightning flashes were most vivid, and the peals of thunder very _heavy ( The disturbance was accompanied by a torrential downpour of rain, which-soon resulted in gutters in the city running kerb-high and overflowing .in many places. Where the water-tables had not been attended to tho roads were cut up. The electrical part'of1 the storm had passed over by S o'clock, but further rain fell. The Cawthron Institute recorded .90in. The annual show of the Rai Valley A, and P. Association was held at. Carhike today. The fixture drew large entries from the Nelson and Marlborough districts. There was quite a large number of Nelson visitors, and many of the larger Nelson busiudss houses were represented. ..... After two years of comparative inactivity; the.Nelson Amateur Operatic and;-Dramatic Society is making an effort to. get.into active operation again.
