A BUSY PORT
MANY VISITING SHIPS
Today's berthage list shows easily the greatest tonnage of ships in port this year. This morning there were at the wharves no fewer'than nine overseas ships, including two large tankers. The two light cruisers H.M.S. Diomedo and H.M'.S. Dunedin are also iii port, and besides' these, the berthage list showed no fewer than twenty-one other vessels. The total tonnage of ships iii port was-107,734. • Of the nine-large overseas ships of a total tonnage of 63,101, in port this morning, the Monowai, from Sydney, will be leaving tonight on a cruise to the Southern Sounds. The Makura, from San Francisco, will leave tomorrow in continuation of her voyage to Sydney. The Opawa, Hororata, and lonic are all duo to leave on Wednesday, the first two to continue their Homeward loading and the last for. Southampton and London. The Tekoa -will leave on Thursday and tho Buahine on Saturday. The two tankers the Buccinum and the Willy, both discharging at .Burnuam, will leave tomorrow and today respectively, the Buccinum for Singapore and I lie Willy for Lyttelton. The two cruisers Dunedin and Diomede will remain in port until April 4, when they will depart on their south- j em cruise. Other vessels in port include the Lyttelton express steamer Bangatira, the Karcpo, Wingatui, and j Kairairo. There should bo increased activity on the waterfront for some time to conic, as several vessels are expected within the next week. The Melbourne Maru is due at midday tomorrow from Hobart and the Wirral tomorrow from Auckland. The Tamaroa is expected to arrive from Napier on Wednesday, and the Kiwitea on Saturday from Newcastle.
