DAIRY PRODUCE QUOTA
BOARD'S ATTITUDE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DANNEVIRKE, This Day. Speaking at a meeting of dairymen on the subject of the quota, Mr W lorns (chairman of the Dairy Board) said that the board's attitude definitely was to oppose it. New Zealand was tho only country outside Canada where dairy produce was not subsidised by the Government. Even the Danes had a subsidy. Government subsidies made dumping possible. Danish butter which was excluded from Germany was permitted to be landed in England, but New Zealand was to be put on a quota. If trade with foreign countries was stabilised, and these cut out subsidies, there would be no need for a quota and butter would go up 2d or 3d a pound.
Although he knew nothing definite he had hopes from hints that had been reported to have been dropped from Governmental heads that there might be some improvement in prospects for the future.
