.Mr. w. JL 'Walsh, who resigned re' eently as ;S9e\yf oundland \Minister of Agriculture {and-"Mines, was acquitted today of criminal,charges that followed an investigation, into the disappearance of part »f the Government's stamp collection
The arrest, of the Hon. W. J". 'Walsh, last month om a «harge of larceny, his release, on. 4000 dollars bail, «nd the acceptance of his resignation as Minister of Agriculture and Mines , from the Newfoundland Government provided sensations as the Department of Justice continued its investigation into the thefts of stnmps from the Government's 120,000-dollar collection;- The Minister was (charged with having appropriated thfteo bound volumes of unused stamps), valued at between 5000 and 0000 dollars, from the closed Newfoundland Museum, housed in the same building as his' Department. The total losses from the museum and' St. John's Post Office wjero estimated at 60,000 dollars. The stamps, collected by tho Government otter half a century, had been stored in. the two buildings for safe keeping. <; '■■ '■■'.
