EX-CONVICT'S JOBS
It was revealed at the Old Bailejr, London, a few weeks ago, that an exconvict with eighteen ■ previous convictions obtained situations in Government offices. Judge 'Whiteley, K.C., expressed surprise at. the fact. Edwin Horace Nail, aged 54, was found guilty of obtaining commissions amounting to about £6 by fraud. ■ A policeman stated that after -his release from prison in September, 1931, Nail was employed for a short time as a clerk in the Inland Eevenue and in tlfe Post Office, ile was convicted at the age of 20. Nail from the dock said that he had been employed in four different Government Departments since his release from prisony and that' he'had: handled thousands of pounds' worth of Post, Office Savings Certificates. He obtained the work on the recommendation of his former commanding officer. The Judge said that he would give Nail another chance." He postponed sentence until the following session.
